Outfit of the Day: Fall Colors + Mixing Details

Monday, October 20, 2014
happpy monday! I surprisingly woke up energized & refreshed today, rather than feeling those monday mornin' blues and decided to do a quick outfit of the day. I got these crop pants with the floral detail from H&M in August for like $6 (what a steal!), the cardigan from Banana Republic last season and the camel-colored sandals I wear almost everyday (also last season) from BCBG Max Azria. I forget where the white top w/abstract detailing is from but I finally got a chance to mix prints/&details. The beige/maroon cardigan, white top, black crops and camel-colored sandals are not only fall colors and easy to blend but the details from both the top and the crops go perfectly since the detailing on the crops are very subtle and the white top detailing pops (it also helps they're both monochrome colors).

hope everyone made it through monday!

Makeup Routine

Sunday, October 19, 2014

Hi beauties, it's been very requested to do a makeup routine; many of you have been asking how to highlight/contour as well as what foundation I use and how to apply it to achieve that flawless finish. This is my first makeup post so i hope the photos and their description are helpful (I'm going to be as detailed as possible). I'll start with discussing primers and foundations and then go on to brows, highlighting, contouring etc. Every product mentioned is linked to a website where it can be purchased. Let me know what you think (we love getting feedback) as well as what other makeup tips & tricks you'd like to see next.
Enjoy! -Rasmin xo

P.S: I have dry skin, so most of the products I use are catered to that skin type, however my sister has combination oily skin and uses most of these products and they work for her too. I also included a high-end as well as a drugstore option to achieve a flawless face with every section except my foundation, application & setting spray- I believe you have to invest in those three products. All other products can be bought cheaper. Both my foundation/setting spray have lasted upwards 6/months+ so the investment is worth it. My shade in each product is listed & since many know their shade in MAC, I'm NC30/NC35- that should give you a reference when looking into products/shades.

Primer: Many use it, many don't believe in it at all. Jaclyn Hill has dry skin and doesn't believe in primers and her makeup always stays on all day and looks so glam, however Nicole Guerriero does and her's is flawless as well- it's personal opinion. & I personally love primer. I like to wash my face (lately it's been Bioré Blemish Fighting Ice Cleanser- it changes) and apply CeraVe Moisturizing Lotion directly afterwards, followed by Rimmel Fix & Perfect Foundation Primer in 001. I like to do these 3 steps back to back because my skin is supple and hydrated and I find my foundation looks better when I do. {I used to wait 10 mins after applying my primer before applying foundation, nope!} This primer smoothes my skin and makes it so unbelievably soft and ready for foundation- I'm obsessed and it's cheap too! I've also tried the Makeup Forever HD Microperfecting Primer and although I love this one too, I go through primer a lot and if I can, I like to save money on some products so I can indulge on others.

Foundation: I have tried so, so, so many foundations I couldn't even list them all but now, I have found the one. I say this now, but honestly, I'm a foundation junkie. I love trying new formulas of foundation and I feel like every girl is always on the hunt for a new favorite after awhile. I have tried almost every MAC Foundation there is to try, I'm such a Macgal. I still am, but I decided to branch out and try a brand from Sephora & for the past year- NARS Sheer Glow Foundation in the shade Stromboli has been the winner in my books. It's creamy, liquid-y enough to apply with a foundation brush or a beauty blender + it stays on all day (the longest I've worn it was 12 hrs and my makeup still looked fresh- crazy right?). The shade also matches my skin perfectly and feels like I have nothing on my face so whenever I apply it, it looks like my skin and natural foundation look is what I live for!

Sigma F80
Application: I have tried to apply foundation with a foundation brush and a beauty blender and I'm obsessed with the finish of the latter. Don't get me wrong, I love my Sigma F80 brush, it applies the foundation flawlessly as well but the Beauty Blender presses the foundation into my skin, and when using it damp it sheers out the foundation which is how I get the natural looking foundation look aka: no cake face. When using the F80 I take a nickel size of foundation on the back of my hand and stipple it all over my face and go back and blend. If I'm using a Beauty Blender, I run it under lukewarm water and squeeze about 10-15 times to get it big enough and place it between a towel to take the excess water out. I then pour a nickel size amount on my Beauty Blender and stipple it all over my face to press the foundation into my skin while blending.

Brows: I get them threaded them once a month, in case you were wondering- is it painful? A little bit. Is it worth it? heck yes. I've been trying to grow my brows out because I'm crushing on thick brows but that requires not getting them threaded each month and that shows the uneven growth. I started filling in my brows to initially cover the growth up but ended up loving the shape and color I could give my brows. I don't know why I didn't start filling them in before! Brows frame your face. Everyday, I use my Sigma E06 brush + the Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade in the shade Ebony. I follow the shape of my brows and start filling in from my arch down towards the tip repeatedly and run a spooly through to blend until my brows are as thick/dark as I'd like them. I very lightly fill in the inner corner of my brows (to make your brows seem natural as possible- avoid filling in this area too much). I finish off my brows with Sonia Kashuk Brow Gel- I dip into the container once and run the spooly through my brows once. This will help your brows stay in place all day.

NARS Creamy Radiant Concealer: Custard
Maybelline FitMe Concealer
Highlight: You want to highlight specific parts of your face to help bring them out and glow. I'm obsessing over the Maybelline Fit Me Concealer in the shade Sand (20). I also love the NARS Creamy Radiant Concealer (Custard) it's also very creamy and pigmented- this one is amazing in photos, it really perfects your makeup. I usually use my FitMe Concealer for everyday/school and gravitate towards my NARS for special occasions.

After I'm done highlighting, I like to set my under eye area as well as wherever else I highlighted my face with a setting powder so it doesn't crease. I've tried MUFE HD Microfinish PowderSonia Kashuk- Undetectable Loose PowderElf HD Powder and they're honestly all dupes for each other. They don't give off a whitecast finish either. I'm personally loving the Anastasia Banana Powder- I use it every day. It truly makes a difference in your makeup finish. Then, top your cheekbones, cupid's bow & a little on the bridge of your nose with any highlighting powder; I'm obsessed with MAC's Soft + Gentle, it's a perfect highlight for any skin complexion. I have tried some drugstore ones but they're not pigmented & very flakey- but I purchased Soft/Gentle about a year ago and I haven't even made a dent so again, worth every penny.

Contour Photo Map: ShowMeBeauty
Contour: This involves taking away parts of your face- as in shading certain areas of your face with bronzer for a more sculpted face. This helps outline your cheekbones, can give a sculpted nose, a pouty lip, a smaller forehead. There's ways to do all of this. I use  MAC "Give Me Sun" Bronzer (here) wherever I want to contour to warm my face up. After I go back to those areas and add a little bit of the Anastasia Beverly Hills Contour Kit (light to medium) Havana & Java shades to sculpt out my features. Both products are  the perfect contouring shade for a lot of skin complexions.

Set your makeup: After I'm done with my entire makeup, I like to finish off with a setting spray. I've only tried one setting spray in my entire life and I promise- your makeup will look the same all day, give you that flawless finish & make you glow. It's a little pricy but some products you simply need to invest in because it truly will make all the difference. MAC Fix+ is everything.

Lipstick Candy- Gerard Cosmetics Review

Tuesday, October 14, 2014
I'm SO excited to blog about these lippies I literally just pulled out of the mailbox. Awhile ago I started following Gerard Cosmetics on instagram and like any other beauty and makeup maven, this means you get sucked into product marketing, a lotBut before you go pointing fingers and say I'm a shopaholic (i will go ahead and admit it as well as say, these were an absolute steal). For the month of October Gerard Cosmetics is having a sale (cue enchanting music) and it's not just any sale... you can purchase 5 of their lipsticks for only $45. I know this may seem like a lot but each lipstick is $9/each and if you shop around- you know drugstore brand lipsticks are about the same price these days.

back (left): Nude, Fire Engine, 1995 / front row: Tequila Sunrise, All dolled Up
Packaging: Each lipstick is in a gold bullet tube, simple + sleek on any countertop.
Color: Every swatch from each lipstick matched the color in the tube almost exactly. The color payoff is incredibly pigmented and has a pretty good wear time. I previously purchased '1995' from Gerard Cosmetics because it's a good dupe for that signature Kylie Lip (blog post here) and it lasts all day- I hardly ever touch up.
Formula: Creamy, buttery, yummy... every single lipstick swatched on my arm was so soft and smooth, they're not drying in the least- even after application. I usually prime my lips with baby lips or aquaphor while I'm getting ready so if I decide to go with a matte lipstick that day- my lips are prepped.
Should I go buy it? Yes. Yes. Yes. Invest in these lipsticks because the color payoff and creamy formula for the price of a drugstore lipstick needs to be on your countertop. I believe without the coupon code for this month, they retail for $15/each- the same price as MAC lipsticks... and well we all know I'm a mac gal so that's saying something :).

Coupon Code: Enter "GCDeal45" at checkout! {valid for the month of October only!}

Quick & Healthy Meals

Life's busy and we're always on the run (hey Beyoncé reference) but eating healthy, delicious meals regularly will help give your body the energy it needs for those busy work weeks. I have 2 recipes down below that are perfect for an easy lunch or dinner. I don't have an exact measurement for each item in either recipe, I usually eyeball all the materials according to the amount of mouths to feed :). If the materials are already available/prepped ahead of time, the prep time for both dishes is about 5-10 mins tops.  Enjoy & Bon Appétit! xo

Spring chicken + mango salsa quesadilla

materials: 2 flour tortillas / diced olives, onions, tomatoes / corn starch / boneless chicken
2 eggs / 2 green onions / 2 lemon or lime / pepperjack cheese / 1 mango & 1 avocado /  nonstick spray  / 1 pan

prep: 1) chop the boneless chicken into small square/cubed pieces. wash in vinegar, rinse, add garlic salt and pepper to taste. turn your fryer on to 375 degrees or start heating a pan w/enough oil to fry (for later).
2) mince the green onions + mix with corn starch, roll the chicken around till fully covered; then dip the chicken pieces into a bowl of egg, covering the chicken pieces (you can re-dip the chicken in corn starch for a thicker crust and back into the egg mixture)
3) fry the chicken pieces for about 3 mins
4) start cube dicing the onions, tomatoes, avocados and mangos for the mango salsa.
5) mango salsa: combine the cubed avocados, mangoes, tomatoes and onions, add 1 lime/lemon (according to taste) and mix into a bowl. {you can make as much mango salsa as you'd like. i always like to make extra to dip chips in}
6) take the 2 slices of pepperjack cheese and fold diagonally to get four triangle pieces.
7) place 2 pieces on one side of the flour tortilla, add the mango salsa, olives & the spring chicken. personally, i like to chop little green onions on top as well. place the remaining 2 triangle slices of pepperjack cheese on top and finish with the flour tortilla.
8) spray nonstick spray onto a clean plan and grill your quesadilla to liking.

add restaurant style tortilla chips and use the remaining mango salsa to complete the meal!

Classic Indian Chicken roll

materials: sliced green bell peppers + onions / boneless chicken / chicken 65 masala / 1 flour tortilla or 1 malaysian paratha / nonstick spray or olive oil /  tamirand chutney / 1 pan

prep: 1) chop the boneless chicken into small square/cubed pieces. wash in vinegar, rinse, add garlic salt and pepper to taste.
2) take your chicken tandoor or chicken 65 masala packet and add to the chicken, let it marinate for 30 minutes to an hour while placed in the fridge (masala packet can be found at indian grocery stores)
3) thinly slice the green bell peppers and red/white onions, toss some olive oil into a pan and grill these to liking. heat your fryer to 365 degrees and start cooking the chicken tandoori.
4) remove the grilled bell peppers + onions into a bowl and cook your malaysian paratha or heat up your flour tortilla
5) take any sauce of your choosing, i use a spicy tamarind chutney my mom makes from scratch. this will also taste great with a green chutney, ranch, or hot sauce of your liking.
6) place the malaysian paratha or flour tortilla in a plate, add the chicken tandoor, onions & bell peppers and drizzle the sauce of your liking overtop.

Tango Mango Salsa- SUPER QUICK + SUPER EASY PEASY

Monday, October 13, 2014
Fish Tacos don't happen in my house without some type of fresh salsa!
I have tried making mango salsa a few times before following so many random recipes and something was never just right. Maybe it was the 'too many' ingredients I would add. Finally last night I didn't have a ton of time to mess around with different recipes and decided to just throw some salsa together [so just FYI...the measurements will not be exact in this recipe]...but boy let me tell you...sometimes...the simplest recipes DO turn out the BEST!

Yields 2-3 servings

-Half of a ripe mango [chopped]
-1/4 of a red onion [chopped very small]
-1/8 of a green jalapeño pepper [remove the seeds & chopped very finely]
-1/2 tablespoon of cilantro [washed, paper towel dried & finely chopped]
-1/8 of a orange bell pepper [chopped very small like the onion. Also, you can surely use a yellow red or green bell pepper but I had an orange one and also wanted to add another color to the salsa so I decided on the orange bell pepper!]
-Half to quarter of a lime [I used 1/4 of a lime but you can use more depending on your tastebuds!]
-Pinch of sugar [optional!...I didn't add it in this time because my mango was very sweet]
-Chopped [1/2] of an avocado [optional!...I didn't add it in this time because my hubs doesn't fancy avocados :( but I have before and they taste delish in this salsa!]

-Throw all ingredients in a bowl [like pic below]
-Squeeze out lime juice...mix...Waa-Laa! SOO EASY!!

*This salsa taste freakin' delicious with fish tacos on a bed of dried cole slaw w/lime juice + Avocados omg!

Tis' the season for Milani BLACK CHERRY lipstick-Review

Tis' the season to be sultry Fa la la la la la la la la....Ok I'll stop :) [Ask my husband or any of my very close family/friends & they will tell you that I turn everything into a song *literally*! I guess being a Preschool teacher is perfect for me for that reason! Haha.]

Anyways...I've been wanting a very dark colored lipstick since the trend from LAST YEAR [or the year before?] came out [I know I'm such a late bloomer!] but I never wanted to really have to spend too much on it since a color so dark is something I [personally] wouldn't wear too often!
A few weeks back my co-blogger friend *waves to Rasmin!:)* told me to go to any drugstore to find the brilliant shine lipgloss by Milani [#04 Mauve Fetish] which is supposed to be a pretty close dupe for Kylie Jenner's signature lips [well one of them]. Of course, when I go anywhere to purchase one thing, I end up with other things. I went to CVS to pick up some medication for my hubby and of course came out with six Milani lip stuff [haha]. But you can't blame me BECAUSE they had a BOGO sale on Milani products that day! I saw this DARK looking lipstick and thought 'heck...for $3-$4 bucks...even if I hate it, I won't put a hole in my wallet!'

My thoughts on the Milani Lipstick #24 Black Cherry:

Packaging: Sleek, sturdy, and pretty

Color: Black Cherry in the lipstick tube looks VERY dark. The swatch on my wrist came out as a deep vampy red wine sort of color and the application on my lips was more of a deep red/maroon color.

Formula: I noticed my lips slightly stained after removing the lipstick so the formula is very pigmented. It's smooth and not drying on the lips BUT I must say that it is a tad bit settling into my lip lines. Which is a downer in my opinion (but I think I have a fix for that...keep reading...]

Keep it or Leave it: For the price, I will def keep this lipstick and will probably wear it again. I did not like that it would slightly settle into the lines of my lips BUT I also was in a rush when I was putting on this lippy and taking quick photos so I did not apply lipliner OR lip primer prior to applying the lipstick. Honestly, something I have learned is that if you have issues with your lipliner or lipstick moving, I def suggest applying lip primer to your lips prior to any liner or lipstick! Especially when wearing dark lipstick colors!! So yeah...I think applying both liner and primer will def help prevent this lipstick from seeping into my lip lines & I will def try that method next time I wear this lipstick.

Also check out other very pretty lipstick colors by Milani [ie, Plumrose, Raspberry Rush, Uptown Mauve, Sangria, Chilled Brandy, and Violet Volt...Plumrose & Sangria being two of my fav colors!] . I will also be doing a review on the Milani Lip Intense liquid lip colors [which I LoVe!] soon!

Yay for awesome drugstore finds! :)

Crispy+Crunchy Salad

Crunchy Asian Inspired Salad

The very first time I played around with this salad, it turned out "it's amazing" [in the words of my hubby]. Then the second time was when my SIL came to visit and I left part of the ingredients for her in the refrigerator to put together and eat for lunch. It didn't turn out too well for her due to the mango not being ripe enough and no dressing. lol. Finally, third time is THE CHARM [duh!] and I have finally figured out how to make this crunchy...crispy...slightly sweet...goodness perfectly! And you know when I really like something, I don't like to keep it a secret...so read below for the recipe so you can make your tummy happy too!

Serves: 2-3
*FOR THE CHICKEN*
-Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
-Wash and clean about 1/2-1 lb of chicken breasts. I use precut pieces!
-In a separate bowl, mix almond butter until its nice and smooth. Then add some chili garlic and Siracha. The amount that you want will depend on how creamy you want your chicken…so eyeball it. Also, the consistency WILL change because of the almond butter being mixed with the chili garlic. The best taste to this chicken for me was when I marinated it in the refrigerator for about 1-2 days and THEN baked it in the oven.
-
*FOR THE SALAD*
-Half a bag of coleslaw mix
-Shredded red cabbage bag [use about a handful in your salad]
-Shredded matchstix carrots [use about a handful in your salad]
-1 pack of ramen noodles (uncooked) crumbled [discard the seasoning packet it comes with]
-1 cup of Mukimame [I buy frozen-microwaveable bag from Target. LOOKS LIKE THIS ]
- Half avocado [peeled & diced]
-Half mango [peeled & diced] Make sure it’s ripe and sweet but NOT mushy!
-1/4 cup of chopped or sliced almonds
-1/4 cup of chopped/sliced green onions [the green & white part]

*FOR THE DRESSING*
-2 tablespoons of olive oil
-1/4 teaspoon of sesame oil [this stuff is strong so be careful]
-1 tablespoon of honey
-1 tablespoon of rice vinegar [or apple cider vinegar can probably work too]
-1-2 teaspoons of soy sauce
-Little bit of salt, black pepper, and red chili pepper flakes to your liking
-Mix all ingredients together until a vinaigrette dressing consistency shows

*Directions*

First thing first…crumble the ramen noodles and chopped/sliced almonds on a baking sheet [no spray or oil needed!], and stir a bit to combine. Bake for about 5-8 minutes for the both noodles and almonds to be toasted and slightly golden.
Add all dry ingredients to a large salad bowl and then add in the vinaigrette to the bowl and toss until combined.
Serve immediately! This salad taste MUCH better eaten the first day, as the noodles lose their "crunch" the longer it sits BUT I did learn that its ok to keep the toasted almonds/noodle mix in a container to use another time.
I hope you enjoy and please let me know in the comments below if you change/add/remove anything around! I love new creations from old ones! :) Bon Apatite!

Goodbye Summer, Hello Fall!

Friday, October 3, 2014
Ah, my favorite season is approaching and I couldn't be more excited! Fall fashion and the breezy weather is always a nice change after the 100 degree southern summer heat. It's not exactly fall (yet) because down south, it's cooler in the mornings and tends to get around 75-80 degrees towards the afternoons. There are certain go-to outfits I love when the weather is in between seasons. I love layering and being able to remove pieces as needed to adjust to the bipolar weather.

Transition your wardrobe with a few, easy tricks
1. Swap out your gladiators and strappy sandals for black of brown ankle booties, boots, or (my fave) classic white converses. Changing your footwear alone says a lot about the season of your outfit.
2. Wear neutral toned polish. Trade out your bright summer nail polish for earthy colors like taupe, olive, burgundy or black.
3. Stack up the accessories. Add a watch, metal bangles, cuffs, rings or even a felt hat.
4. Makeup. Many of us wear little to no makeup during the summer to avoid it melting off your face and clogging those pores but its time to add a wine-colored lip (Personally, I love Mac's Heroine lipstick + Mac's Nightmoth lip liner).
5. Leather. Wearing a leather jacket or leather leggings will add a very chic element to your outfit and are perfect for winter as well.
6. Blazers or cardigans. It's not too hot, not too cold- wearing relaxed cardigans + light cotton tees or a blouse + blazer will help keep you the perfect temperature. Plus, both pieces can be worn year-round so they're not a season-by-season investment either.

I snapped a few, quick outfit selfies this week and posted them below. Hope it gives you some style inspo for those in-between season transitions!

cardigan: Target | tee + necklaces: Forever21

Jean Vest + necklace: Forever21 | Grey tee: H&M | Aztec Print Jeans: American Eagle | Watch: Michael Kors

Anorak jacket: Shop Civilized | Striped tee + faux leather leggings: H&M

All of these looks are easy transition outfits from summer to fall. As a college student, comfort yet fashionable is a reoccurring theme, haha. Each outfit has a simple tee paired with simple faux leather leggings/skinny jeans with various outerwear pieces to keep warm during the cooler mornings. The cardigan and anorak jacket were worn on cooler, rainy days (above) and I never really needed to take them off- however the chambray outfit (below) was worn on a warmer day. If the weather where you live is as bipolar as mine, its always nice to have something to easily tie around your waist and look just as fashionable. This is key to dressing during this warm-cool transition, easily removable pieces that look great on/off. Also, don't forget your jewelry! Pairing any outfit with statement necklaces and arm candy are the easiest way to spice up any outfit.

Chambray: Love Culture | V-neck: Banana Republic | Necklace: F21 | Faux leather leggings: H&M | Watch: Michael Kors

Indian Healing Clay Mask

100% Natural Calcium Bentonite Clay
Presenting:

Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay Mask

Like a painter's canvas, our skin is the canvas that must be in its best condition for makeup to look flawless. Clean and clear skin is something we all want, right? I would say that I have semi-sensitive skin and due to some health condition during the past year or two, my skin became bipolar. I kept having ups and downs with it until after making some major changes to my diet and medications, my skin has cleared up tremendously. Because of my roller coaster skin, taking care of it is very important to me. One of the best methods that I use to take care of my skin is by applying facial masks on a weekly-biweekly basis. I will do a separate post of my favorite masks but for now, I would like to introduce you to this 100% natural & VERY affordable clay mask: Aztec Indian Healing Clay Mask [wooh!]
This clay is wonderful and is actually found in many deep cleansing clay masks, but never in its pure form...unless you buy this awesome jar off of Amazon like I did!
Claim: Deep pore cleansing & feel your face pulsate
What it Does: In my opinion, this mask really does pull out all of the impurities from deep within your pores. Why I say that? Because every time I have used this mask, after a few days...I will see whiteheads or a zit pull out and then my skin is suddenly glowing
How to Use: The directions state to use it once a week or more than once for problem skin. I have used it a few times about every two weeks or more and leave on for about 20-30 mins. Many people mix the powdered clay with raw apple cider vinegar, but I didn't feel comfortable doing that so I just mix in water. After each use I noticed that my skin felt softer and my pores were shrinking which made my makeup apply more smoothly. You can actually feel a "pulse" in your face! Once you open the container you will find that it is in powder form and it is odorless. Also, I use this super cute plastic bowl and brush to mix and apply my mask. The bowl comes with measuring spoons, and a brush. I will list the link below for both the mask and bowl to be purchased from Amazon.

How-to: Style Neon Pumps!

hey fashonistas! Recently, my shoe obsession has gotten out of hand, to say the least- but my lovely brother indulged my bad habit for my 21st birthday and got me the hottest heels ever. (I may or may not say this about all my heels but thats besides the point).  For starters, they were a pretty penny and that price didn't include the shipping cost from Australia either.  So of course, when my baby bro asked what I wanted for my birthday, I quickly showed him these heels and the day before my birthday they were at my doorstep. Perfect timing much?

As I tore open the box and walked around my house in these comfortable neon statement pumps, I knew I needed to style an outfit before my birthday dinner so I could wear these ASAP! I've attached photos from my birthday dinner of how I wore my neon pumps as well as other outfit suggestions. What I absolutely love about neon pumps is that they can be worn all year-round and aren't limited to a specific season.

Neon pumps: Kardashian Shoes | Trousers: Michael Kors
I decided to pair my new pumps with my new favorite trousers from Michael Kors. They're midnight navy (almost look black) printed in the front with a solid navy back, paired with a timeless oxford from Abercrombie&Fitch with a statement blush detailed bag to match from H&M! The trousers help add a little something extra and the simple oxford helps tie it together. The blush bag is also a statement piece but the neutral color lets it remain a bold yet subtle piece.
Neon pumps: Kardashian Shoes | Trousers: Michael Kors | Handbag: H&M  | Oxford: Abercrombie&Fitch (similar)

A casual approach:
If paired with a plain tee, this outfit can go from glam to everyday casual super quick. (ex: light colored boyfriend jeans + white/grey v-neck, small necklace, arm candy, big bag & neon pumps.
