Happy holidays to all who celebrate,
Rasmin

Makeup- If she's a makeup junkie, I refer you to my Sigma brushes & the Lipstick Candy blog posts because if she doesn't have these- she should. Look at the pictures below for even more tried and true makeup products she'll absolutely love.

Hair Tools- Does she love doing her hair? Check out these awesome hair tools that hold hair all day (even curls) without hairspray. Trust me, my hair is hard to curl and the Jose Eber Curling Wand in 25mm would last me two days and I never used hairspray. Its amazing.

Skincare products- For the girl who loves to take care of her skin, try getting her a mask from Lush or Glam Glow. Both of these companies have amazing facial masks that do wonders for your skin. I personally love the Ocean Salt & Mask of Magnanimity from Lush. They use all natural ingredients and are made per order at the Lush stores. You can also get a Clarisonic, which is a a cleansing brush to wash your face/remove makeup that rotates 300 x's/second; overtime it improves your skin and have heard nothing but good things from those who own one.

Clothes- Is she always shopping for new clothes or shoes? Check out How-to: Style Neon Pumps & Chic Holiday Fashion blog posts for pieces she will LOVE. Also try memberships at JustFab / Shoedazzle for monthly picks from celebrity stylists and get VIP pricing- you can skip by the 5th of each month if you don't want to purchase & you won't be charged! Review: Sigma Makeup Brushes + Black Friday Sale!

Thursday, November 27, 2014
The first step to achieving a flawless face is not just the right makeup products that work for your skin type but the right makeup brushes as well. I would put makeup brushes first over makeup products because without the right brush you won't get the most out of your makeup. It took me a few years to convince myself before I decided to invest in Sigma brushes. I've had them for over a year now & I'm shocked I didn't get them sooner. Like seriously... they're amazing and worth ever single penny. They have a lot of options on their website & it can get confusing, so I'll break it down for ya.

My makeup brushes- numbers of every brush listed at the end!

Brushes are sold as complete sets, smaller sets or individual and the brush handles come in 18K gold, copper, or chrome. The 18K gold is obviously a little pricier, followed by the copper and the chrome handled brushes are the cheapest. There is no difference in quality based on the brush handle material- all brushes are made of the exact same material.

Complete Brush Set: The Extravaganza Chrome Complete Kit retails for $417.00 and comes with all 29 brushes the company has to offer. If you get this kit- you'll never need another makeup brush again and especially recommend it for MUA's. However, for your everyday gal who just loves makeup, I don't think you need the entire set, not that you won't get use out of it if you do decide to purchase it.
Extravaganza Copper Complete Kit retails for $472.00
Extravaganza 18K Gold Complete Kit retails for $539.00

Smaller Brush Set: Sigma offers a lot of different brush set options and the entire list with photos and details can be found here. Don't let the different names confuse you.

-The travel kit has smaller brushes and has a number of different colors.
-The Perfect Blend Kit and the Spot-on Concealer Kit have 6 brushes in each kit that focus on brushes that blend/conceal different parts of the face.
-The Precision Kit has 5 brushes that mimic your fingertips when applying power/liquid makeup (ideal for MUA's).
-If you're looking into the Precision Kit, I recommend you go ahead and get the Sigmax Essential Kit, it comes with all 5 of the precision kit brushes as well as 5 of the face brushes made of the synthetic fibers at the top so your makeup is distributed evenly across the face.
-The Premium Kit comes with 15 brushes that cover the eyes, face & lips. Perfect for your makeup collection and you won't need another makeup brush ever agin. (Definitely look into this one)
-The Performance Eyes Kit comes with 8 eye brushes for precise application of liquid, cream or powder onto certain areas of the eyes.
-The Extreme Color Payoff Kit comes with 6 brushes that claim to deliver a strong, pigmented application of eyeshadows, bases and liners.
-The Essential Kit comes with 12 brushes, some are similar to the brushes included in the Premium Kit and some are different. If you're looking into purchasing these and aren't a MUA I would compare these two kits, read the details of what each brush in the sets do and make a decision of what you would use the most.

I bought the brushes individually and will list the numbers down below. Some have complained of the brushes shedding when they wash them- I have not had that problem. I do recommend washing your brushes (& being a tad rough with them) before you use them. I use baby shampoo to deep clean my brushes. They are comparable to MAC and a lot cheaper.

Individual brushes I bought from Sigma
p.s- my brushes are everywhere right now and not clean, so instead I just pasted a copy of my receipt of the brushes I got. I can do a full face of makeup with these brushes and don't need any other brush, other than my NARS Ita brush (What I use to contour with, the price went up because it sold out, came back, sold out etc. SO GLAD I got it before it got ridiculously expensive. Worth it though!)

Chic Holiday Fashion

Wednesday, November 26, 2014
Tis' the season to dress fab, fa la la la, la. The holiday season is upon us & can be quite stressful without having to figure out what to wear to holiday events. I've posted a few outfits for inspiration, if they can be found online- they're linked. I tried to include affordable pieces Also I included makeup looks I would pair with each outfit, this is something new I'm trying on the blog. If you like it or have any suggestions feel free to comment below- maybe this can be a new fashion series :)
-Rasmin, xo

Look #1: Casual Lunch/Shopping/Meeting

I love, love, love casual looks like this one. It's so effortless but it looks like you really put work into your outfit. Pair this look with a bold vampy lip + smokey eye. Trade the jeans for a pair of crop pants to make the outfit dinner appropriate.

Buy the outfit here:
Dinner blazer
Boyfriend jeans
Statement necklace
Nude pumps
Nude pumps (not pictured- cheaper alternative)

Look #2: Special Occasion/Lunch/Dinner

These sequin trousers seem intimidating at first, but I promise they are the statement piece right now, especially during the holiday season when sequins are so popular. The black top option can be worn pretty much to any event, however if you plan on wearing the white top + blazer combo I would leave that specifically for a lunch/dinner.

Buy the outfit here:

Look #3: Special Occasion

This look is perfect for a holiday party or any special event for that matter that will take place around the fall/winter season. The colors are neutral but the statement heel, sequined skirt and makeup make this look pop. I would pair the structured blazer with a loose blush blouse, tucked into the sequined skirt with leggings/stockings underneath.

Buy the outfit here:

Look #4: Special Occasion

This long gown with the white sides and gold metal detail is gorgeous. The look screams glamorous, yet so simple. I would add a structured white blazer with this look but didn't have enough room to add it. Of course, you can wear it without the blazer as well- all personal preference. For makeup look #1, I couldn't find the artists instagram, the name is underneath her brow but it is hard to read (if anyone knows who's work this is, please comment below!)

Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Muffins- Diary Free + Flour Free = Guilt Free

Sunday, November 23, 2014

I promise, I am not a huge pumpkin freak lol...though it may seem that way because I have been incorporating it a lot this season. For a while now, I have had the urge to bake and eat something sweet (I don't really crave sweets though!) without feeling super guilty afterwards or throwing my hard work from my morning workout down the drain. Plus, with my new lifestyle change due to personal health, I can't have things with too much dairy, bleached flour, corn syrup, white sugar...SWEETNESS...basically all the goodness that's in store bought sweet treats...womp! womp! womp! My husband on the other hand can care less and will devour anything chocolate and sweet and most likely not feel guilty. To prevent him from making bad choices, I try not to bring home anything that contains too much nastiness in it & instead try to make alternatives to satisfy the sweet tooth. Ok maybe not all the time, but I'm trying! These pumpkin base muffin cakes using 100% maple syrup and dairy/soy-free chocolate chips def touched the spot! Give them a try! You won't regret them! xox- Nil

PS- I also made some Pumpkin-Apple muffin cakes with this batch but I'll post that recipe with a BIG apple recipe post I am working on using the apples I picked from an apple orchard a few weeks back! Coming soon, promise :)

What'ya Need:
-*Preheat oven 325 degrees F.
-3/4 cup of Pumpkin Puree (I used this one- Libby's 100% Pure Pumpkin)
-1/2 to 1 cup of almond butter (So I used only 1/2 a cup and felt that my muffin cakes turned out a bit too soft because of too much pumpkin puree. So I suggest using a full 1 cup of almond butter!)
-1/3 cup of maple syrup (or a little less if you would like) I used 100% pure maple syrup.
-1 teaspoon of cinnamon powder
-1 teaspoon of baking SODA
-1 Egg (beaten)
-Dairy-Free mini chocolate chips (I used a small handful but you can use as much as you would like)
-Muffin tins + Coconut oil to rub in the tins or cupcake liners

Step 1: Put the pumpkin puree, almond butter, maple syrup, egg, cinnamon powder, baking soda all in a large bowl. Mix slowly.

Step 2: Fold in your chocolate chips. & also sprinkle some on top. *I actually spooned them in after the batter was in the muffin tins because I was making two different type of muffins.

Step 3: Pop in the oven for about 30 minutes. If you use mini muffin tins then you will only leave them in the oven for about 15-20 minutes, just watch it so they don't burn.

I love how they look like chocolate brownies!! :)

Step 4: Take out the oven, let cool completely before taking them out of the tin. Mine actually turned out a little too soft so I put them back in the oven for another 10 minutes but I think this problem can be solved if you use a little more almond butter than I did. I also refrigerated the leftovers in a tight container because I am afraid they will mold quicker if left out.

Yum! Hope you try these flour-less, guilt-free, EASY treat! <3

Baked Sweet Potato Fries + FlavorGod Garlic Lovers Seasoning

I made some baked chicken nuggets tonight for dinner [I will also blog those soon] & needed a simple side to pair the nuggets with. Since I had a bag of sweet potatoes in my fridge that I never made what I had anticipated to make last weekend [oops!], I decided to whip up these quick, light, & tasty fries inspired by CamilleStyles

What'ya need:
-3 small-medium sized sweet potatoes
-A large bowl, Cutting board, a very sharp knife
-Baking trey lined with aluminum foil
-2 tablespoon of olive oil
-Cooking spray [I used olive oil spray]
-2 teaspoon of Tapioca Starch [Good alternative to corn starch]
-1/2 tablespoon of any seasoning [I used this low salt, gluten & sugar-free Flavor God Garlic Lovers Seasoning] You can also just sprinkle with light salt & black pepper or garlic salt/powder...or really any seasoning flavor you want your fries to be! :)

*Before anything, preheat your oven to 450 degrees F and move your lower oven rack to the 3rd section from bottom up.*

Step 1: Peel the sweet potatoes (I used 3 small sized) & cut them like fries. Put them in a bowl and fill up the bowl with water and let the potato strips soak for about 45 mins to an hour.

Step 2: After the potatoes have been soaked in the water, wash them with cold water again and then dry them using a bunch of paper towels. [Sorry for the lack of picture for this step...I kinda forgot ;) ]

Step 3: Place the fries in a large gallon size zip-lock bag and toss in about 2 teaspoon of Tapioca Starch and shake...shake...shake!

Step 4: Dump the tapioca starch coated fries in a bowl and drizzle in about 2 tablespoon of olive oil.

Step 5: Sprinkle in your seasonings [I sprinkled about 1/2 tablespoon]. (I usually enjoy black pepper and garlic salt/powder) but this time I decided to use one of my new seasonings [gluten free, low salt, no sugar] that I ordered recently by Flavor God. [I will do a review on these once I use them some more]. For the fries, I used the Garlic Lover's Seasoning

Step 6: Mix, mix mix! Mix it good :)

Step 7: Spray a foil-lined trey with olive oil and spread out the fries. Make sure you don't over crowd the little guys on one trey.

Step 8: Pop the trey in the oven for about 15 minutes. Take out, shake/mix up a little and put it back in the oven for another 5 minutes (Or skip this 2nd step if you are happy with the way the 15 mins cooked the fries) *I put them back for another 15 minutes and had a bunch of burnt fries :( So had to do another batch and for the 2nd batch, I only put them in the oven for 15 minutes and that was it.

*Left- Burnt ones & Right- Second non-burnt batch*

Step 9: Enjoy with some ketchup or as is. You can also season these with any other seasoning you like [during step 5].

I hope you give these a try. They are very easy and taste yummy! I liked them so much that I can't wait to play around with different flavors to season these fries with! xox-Nil

Edible Gluten-Free Pumpkin Spice Playdough

Monday, November 17, 2014

Play dough is not only so much fun to play with (& a good stress reliever for me) but allowing children to explore with play dough allows for fine motor development, social & emotional development, creativity & imagination, language & literacy, science, math and even physical development!

Today I had my class make play dough in the art center and they loved it!! We are still pretending Fall isn't leaving us anytime soon here in the North East so we made PUMPKIN SPICE play dough (edible). And you know...now days its all about that pumpkin spice & everything nice, right? lol jk.

Below is the recipe and a few pictures from our fun craft!

What'ya need:
-Can of Pumpkin Pie Filling. Like this one HERE
-Cornstarch (any)
-Pumpkin Pie Spice. Like this one HERE

What ya need to do:
-In a bowl [I used containers since this was done in my classroom but at home you can use whatever bowl you have because it'll be easier to mix] combine pumpkin filling and pumpkin spice. Mix with hands. Then, slowly add in cornstarch and stir/mix [we used our hands :) ]. The amount of cornstarch you add with vary. I ended up adding a lot to make my "pumpkin dough" tougher. One the dough tolls into a ball without sticking, it is ready. My kiddos had lots of fun just using their senses to explore their creation!

First reaction: Ummm this is weird. LOL

Then one of my kiddos decided she wanted to paint the soft play dough on her hands. :)

They did "try" it (its safe!) but spit it back out lol. Maybe lacking some sugar? ;) haha.

Ta-Da! It actually turned out better then I had expected! Sorry for the lack of better pictures of the final product. I'll see if I can get some close-up photos of the playdough & post here later.

It smells so good!! <3

Quinoa + Brown 'pan fried rice'

Saturday, November 15, 2014

No Rocket Science here. A very easy and quick recipe [& pretty skinny I would say!] to add to a fun weekend meal or any weekday meal prepped menu as the grain/carb portion side like I did recently. YUM!

What is quinoa? A seed. A SEED? Yep. It's "known" as a grain or a legume but it's actually a seed that belongs to a plant native to South America. It recently gained huge popularity in the healthy eating world and I am very happy that it did because I enjoy it. It's so light fluffy and tasty to my tastebuds. It is gluten free & high in protein, fiber and iron...all things that I need more of lol. Brown rice is still not a bad choice over white or dirty rice so I decided to mix a little bit of both in this recipe because my husband for some reason doesn't "love" the texture of quinoa...but then again he doesn't really like rice all that much either sooo...lol. I on the other hand basically grew up on eating rice ALL.THE.TIME...so this recipe is a real treat for me! Here is a great breakdown of Quinoa vs. Brown Rice

This was very quick for me to make because I already had a batch of cooked brown rice and a batch of cooked white & black mixed quinoa already ready. At the very bottom of this post, I will add directions for cooking quinoa and brown rice.

What ya need:
-Half of a large onion...chopped. (white or red)
-1 tablespoon of minced garlic
-Olive Oil Cooking Spray
-1/2cup of brown rice
-1 (or a little but more if you like) cup of quinoa (I had mixed a little bit of black quinoa w/my regular white when I cooked it)
-chopped carrots (I ended up throwing in some leftover matchstick carrots that I had in the fridge)
-2 tablespoonful of green onions...chopped.
-Black pepper & salt

*You can also add other veggies such as peas or corn but I didn't because my husband doesn't really like peas in his rice and I don't care for it all that much either.

Step 1: Spray some Olive Oil Cooking Spray in a wok or a non-stick pan. Throw in minced garlic & onions. Saute.

Step 2: Add in the cooked brown rice. Saute for a few seconds.

Step 3: Add in the cooked quinoa. Mix & saute on medium heat.

Step 4: Mix in your veggies (whatever you decide to use)
Then, push away everything to the corners, creating space in the center. Crack two eggs (or just egg whites if you want) in the middle, mix a bit and then once its pretty much cooked, break up the egg and mix everything up. Sprinkle some black pepper and salt.

Step 5: Top off with chopped green onions & siracha.

How to cook quinoa:
I use the Simply Balanced bags from Target: Red Quinoa & Regular Quinoa

Step 1:  Rinse quinoa using a sieve by running it under tap water for a minute or so stirring the seeds around with your fingers.

Step 2: Take 2 cups of water or broth (I usually use vegetable broth or water) and pour in a saucepan. Pour in the washed quinoa and bring everything to a boil.
Step 3: Lower the heat, cover and let simmer and cook slowly until all water is absorbed. Turn off heat and fluff with fork. This entire process should take you about 20 minutes or so.
